The Three Projects project mainly focussed on the Peterloo Gallery exhibition in 1978, explored and extended issues raised in work produced earlier in Newcastle. There were, in fact, four bodies of work included in the Peterloo exhibition:

Performance (as lecture) for Painting 1976 – 1978: a painting that referenced a performance-lecture presented in October 1976 that explored the representation of time in visual art, and then developed into a narrative structure concerned with a journey that became a quest.

Eight Skies from Kent 1977 – 1978: a painting made from eight documentary photographs of the skies of North East Kent, the site of the Battle of Britain in 1940.

Portrait of Lenin 1977 – 1978: a painting – installation that originated in a large-scale garden construction based on a portrait of Lenin that referenced images from the Soviet Union collected in the summer of 1977.

The Journey 1978: a temporary gallery installation that extended and reflected on aspects of the narrative structure that had been developed in Performance (as lecture) for Painting.
