Works made during this period were produced as part of an MFA programme at Reading. These were mainly the result of a kind of de-construction of abstract painting, attempting to provide an experience of the materiality of the painting object and to the processes of its production.

The use of drawing as an integral feature of practice began to emerge during this time, both as a way of reflecting back on critical issues emerging in the work and as means of planning and speculating about future developments.
